Welcome to the

Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc

The Jewel of the French Riviera

Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, located on the French Riviera, has a rich history dating back to 1869 when it was originally built as a writers’ retreat by the founder of Le Figaro newspaper, Auguste de Villemessant. Over the decades, it became an iconic destination for artists, writers, celebrities, and world leaders, earning a reputation for its elegance, exclusivity, and stunning views of the Mediterranean. The hotel played a prominent role during the golden age of Hollywood and has continued to be a favorite retreat for the elite. Known for its timeless charm, Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc remains a symbol of French luxury and sophistication.

For 150 years, the property has served as the sun-kissed home away from home for titans of literature (Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Stefan Zweig, Noël Coward), film (Marlene Dietrich, Alain Delon, Elizabeth Taylor, who brought all of her husbands there, and every Hollywood A-lister in town for Cannes), art (Chagall, Picasso, Matisse), music (John and Yoko, Jane and Serge, Ella Fitzgerald), politics (Churchill, De Gaulle, the Kennedys), and high society (Russian aristocrats, the Duke of Windsor and Wallis Simpson)

A little bit of history…

  • The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc was first called Villa Soleil and conceived as an artists' retreat.

  • Picasso drew the resturaunt’s menu in 1955.

  • F. Scott Fitzgerald immortalised the building as Hôtel des Etrangers, in Tender Is the Night.

  • The hotel's saltwater infinity pool was carved into the basalt rock at the base of the property in 1914.

  • The hotel's rose garden was designed by Lady Onslow.

  • From the time of their courtship—when he was still King of the United Kingdom—the Duke of Windsor and Wallis Simpson were regulars at the Hotel du Cap.

  • Despite all the grandeur, Hotel du Cap has always danced to its own tune, accepting only cash payments up until 2006.

“On the pleasant shore of the French Riviera, stands a large, proud, rose-coloured hotel"

— F. SCOTT FITZGERALD
